Breast thermography is a state-of-the-art screening procedureutilizing Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging that captures heat images of the breastto aid in earliest detection possible of breast cancer. Cleared by the FDA in1982, this procedure measures thermovascular temperature and vascular patterns on the surface of breasts. As a tumor grows, it develops a bigger (and hotter) blood supply. An infrared camera picks up this heat signal.
Cancer is hot, benign is not.
Board Certified Thermographers compare heat differences from side-to-side and see where tumor development may be taking place. These temperatures and patterns can be monitored over time for changes caused by physiological abnormalities, congestion, inflammation and/or increased blood flow, possibly indicating a pre-cancerous condition or cancer development.
The procedure is comfortable and safe, using no compression.
It is not considered an alternative to mammography. This internationally accepted imaging is an excellent adjunctive examination that shows physiologic changes associated with angiogenesis, the growth of blood vessels that support tumor proliferation. Only the biopsy diagnoses cancer.
"Thermography does not bear the diagnostic burden of Cancer - it is NOT the job of safe infrared temperature-taking to diagnose Cancer. No, nor does Mammography, but it is the purpose, function, and role of heat imaging to observe inflammation. It is far more important to observe inflammation, at the beginning, than it will ever be to observe late-stage-detected Cancer, near the end." Dr. Jeff Prystupa
THERMOGRAPHY - NOT JUST FOR BREASTS!
There are a wide variety of uses for thermographic imaging beyond breast health. The Female Profile includes breasts, oral pathology, cerebrovascular region, thyroid, abdomen and spine. The Male Profile includes cerebrovascular region, mouth, thyroid, chest, abdomen, spine, and testicles. A Whole Body Profile includes all of the above plus the arms and legs.
Much has been written recently about the effect mouth disease has on the rest of your health. Thyroid issues are an epidemic in our world now and blood tests are often inconclusive. Thermal imaging can give a warning for the potential of a stroke in seeing limited blood flow to your head. The internal organs such as your liver and pancreas may be needing cleansing. Your lymph system may be blocked and need support. Your hormones may need balancing. Estrogen dominance is the #1 risk factor for breast cancer. Thermal imaging can see skin cancer before any other screening method. Our camera can provide good information to understand your issues. Some of this information may save your life…
Thermography and Mammography are complementary and are not competitors.
Breast Thermography is a useful adjunct to Mammography. It is an effective risk assessment option for women who are too young to have mammograms, those with dense breast tissue, those who decline mammography, and men. This has created an increasing interest in Breast Thermography with hundreds of MDs now utilizing the technology for their patients.
Choosing the right breast health screening options to serve your individual needs is essential. All women are unique. It is important to partner with your doctor in creating the best personal health care management plan possible focused on disease prevention Monitoring physiological changes related to inflammation and increased blood flow that could lead to disease can be an important motivator. More information empowers a woman to be proactive when it comes to her breast health. Breast Thermography can alert you and your doctor to changes at the earliest stages for an opportunity to determine the best way to proceed. Breast Thermography risk assessment encourages you to take action immediately instead of potentially waiting years before an anatomical test (i.e. mammogram, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) may detect cancer. This information can be used to help determine when additional testing is necessary, to improve the accuracy of other examinations and aid in monitoring treatment protocols. Healthy lifestyle choices (i.e. diet, hormonal balance, exercise, stress management, etc.) are crucial in efforts to prevent disease.
Again: Breast Thermography is an adjunctive option and is not a stand-alone technology or competitor to other breast health screenings. Additional breast health screening options (i.e. ultrasound, MRI, mammogram, blood test, etc.) should be determined by you and your doctor.
Why are proactive efforts and preventive opportunities for breast disease important?
Decades go by and we are still waiting for a cure. This fact dictates that prevention is our best option. 15% of breast cancer occurs in women under age 40. In the U.S., breast cancer is diagnosed every 2 minutes. Genetics account for only 2-5% of all cases. Dr. H. Gilbert Welch of Dartmouth Medical School writes in his 2011 book “Over-Diagnosed” that mammograms harm more women than they help. The research shows that lives are not saved by the mammogram screening dictate. He emphasizes that the over-screening with radiation leads to over-diagnosis and over-treatment for profit.

An advanced technology that could save your life!
Benefits to Choosing Thermography
•No Painful Contact: exam can be done with greater comfort.
•No Compression: eliminates trauma to the breast, avoids disrupting and spreading cancer cells if they are present.
•No Harm to your body: safe for all ages and pregnant women
•Early Detection: detects changes in breast tissue 8 to 10 years earlier than the conventional systems.
